How Active Learning Improves Nighttime Pedestrian Detection

  Aufrufe 19,663

Vor 9 Monate

Active learning makes it possible for AI to automatically choose the right training data. An ensemble of dedicated DNNs goes through a pool of image frames, flagging frames that it finds to be confusing. These frames are then labeled and added to the training dataset. This process can improve DNN perception in difficult conditions, such as nighttime pedestrian detection.

@Dracconus i already told you anyone can record whoever they want as long as its public property
Anuj Vor 8 Monate
@Dracconus Hmm, don't really remember proclaiming myself a genius. Either way, there's plenty fields of science that either directly or indirectly rely on recording video footage of the general public for research and analytical purposes. If someone's worried about cameras capturing their faces, then surely they've bigger concerns in life. Life's too short to be bitchin about someone capturing me sacred heat signatures.
Dracconus Vor 8 Monate
@Anuj Science is not directly or indirectly correlated nor reliant on the ability to record people in public. Educate yourself, and stop proclaiming yourself to be a genius when it is inherently evident you aren't.

Nvidia, you promised Raytracing support for 10 series cards. I have 1080ti and I can't enable RTX toggle in Minecraft beta. What gives? Did you lie? I am fine if fps is lower or it's done via software trickery, you promised, so please deliver.
AlkyoneAoide Vor 8 Monate
@Anuj of course. I don't know the ins and outs of Minecraft Bedrock RTX but that's not a super old card and personally I would still hold out and see if the optimizations on release or after an update allow some cards like that.
Anuj Vor 8 Monate
@AlkyoneAoide That's all agreeable, but Nvidia can only do so much for these old cards in regards to ray tracing without those new cores. This individual might be wanting to experience the glory of ray tracing in minecraft on his card, but I doubt he'll be able to enjoy the experience using the aforementioned card.
AlkyoneAoide Vor 8 Monate
@Anuj It ultimately depends on what you're doing. They absolutely care about backwards compatibility. Hell, the desktop I've used for years has a GTX 600 series card and it has worked perfectly for any modern game I've tried to play on it. Raytracing is, and always has been available in some capacity to any card at all, the RTX cores ARE NOT a requirement. They only speed up the process. So games that raytrace everything will probably not be fully supported on old cards because it would be impossible to provide a smooth, completely raytraced experience. However, the tech behind it was, is, and will always be available for use on anything, and as such if you do not use raytracing in too many places you can have a smooth game as far back as you want.
Anuj Vor 8 Monate
I doubt they care about giving rt to anything before the turing lineup. You need rt at a relatively playable fps, you wait for ampere. Or rdna 2.
AlkyoneAoide Vor 8 Monate
No. It is still in beta, unoptimized and unsupported on lower-end hardware like yours. It will probably come eventually. And you already can do ray tracing in most other scenarios on that card, it is plenty if you want to do a 3D render or even play some games with a mix of rasterization and ray tracing.

We can't even render realtime without glitchy shadows, you can't do any of this on but a humongously expensive and fragile machine. Nice idea, but too expensive.
AlkyoneAoide Vor 8 Monate
@00FF00 People seem to forget Minecraft RTX is still in beta. That means unfinished and unoptimized shaders. Real-time ray tracing in finished scenarios does way better. And yeah, rasterization works great for most scenarios too!
00FF00 Vor 8 Monate
As glitchy shadows you mean Minecraft RTX? You can render nice real-time shadows without RTX in modern games since at least a decade, not every option is best for everything...

There's an odd uncertainty marking at 00:40 (left of the woman with white rain coat) to 00:44 (still same spot, left of the orange sign board). I am unable to see clearly what's causing it. Is it caused by interference? Also, what's being used to assign the level of uncertainty? Mhmm ... maybe I should start working at NVIDIA.

Thermal cameras would be better at detecting pedestrians than normal photo cameras won’t they? You could use a multi-lens system having one to see road signs and another to detect life forms to prevent roadkills as well
Akira Vor 8 Monate
@00FF00 thermals were a bad idea by the OP, but IR cameras would be great, simply creating better silhouette/lines to differentiate objects, while comparing data from both sources. But I guess none of those are 'raindrop distortion' proof
00FF00 Vor 8 Monate
Thermal cameras won't work properly for people with clothes. Every piece of cloth have different thermal signature. Also, they seem to be a dozen times more expensive.
Stef3m Vor 9 Monate
Thermal camera would work just at night when background temperature drop and artificial light would probably be a source of interference, normal cameras has a wider spectrum sensitivity which means they can capture much more light (and details), lidar can detect single pedestrian even in a tight group and would contribute detection in a completely dark environment
DrTreckmaster Vor 9 Monate
You might induce visual context too tough, as other object can be „hot“ either. As this needs to run with a certain Efficiency in real-time, I am Not sure of this is feasible for current Technology

00FF00 Vor 9 Monate
I think that NVIDIA has better prerequisities to create good models and deploy them in more cars than Tesla does. I was dissapointed in debug video that Tesla shared a few months ago, Nvidia share better stuff every day and go practically unnoticed for some reason. The idea behind model that is talked about in this video is brilliant.
